When Ella Fitzgerald first went into the recording studio for Verve it was not to record The Cole Porter Songbook; it was to record four singles. Ella recorded 45’s alongside her major album projects for the next ten years. This collection, the first of two volumes (Volume 2 will be released in the fall of 2004), gathers Ella’s singles together for the first time, and is the first CD release of most of them. And they all reflect the many facets of her musical personality, whether she’s singing sentimental ballads, big-band swingers, or novelty tunes. Her impeccable artistry and wonderful voice makes every one a hit.

Everyone has been waiting for this! It hasn't been released yet, and already two reviews arrived... Ella sings songs from the days with the swinging Buddy Bregman orchestra (even pre-Cole Porter sessions) and her version of 'It's Only A Man' is wonderful. Enjoy the CD!

After waiting so long for the right time, they finally are ours! I've been collecting these singles for years, and I used to listen to them in my private CDR copy, because the production of the singles of Ella are just great. Don't miss buying this collection. It's not like Sarah Vaughan's or Dinah Washington's single sides. The Ella ones are just great!
